Here We Go Again
The race is on.
I have one weekend until my parents arrive for the Thanksgiving holiday.
I don't want to think about four adults in a house with only one toilet.
In the time I have left, I need to finish painting the walls, install the flooring, and install the toilet in our inside bathroom.
Confidence is still high. I have no idea why.
It would be nice to have finished the entire project by now (or about 8 months ago), but as some might remember, another project popped up.
Furthermore, what started out as a simple project to install a shower over a bathtub turned into an epic of absurd proportions.
For the morbidly curious, I present the current task list. Keep in mind that this list includes only the final steps. I wasn't doing the list thing when we started, so the list doesn't record the work we've already done, such as remove the old bathtub, pull off all the old, non-water resistant wallboard, marvel at the mold, sweat in new copper plumbing, ditch the old toilet, pull up the old vinyl flooring, puzzle over all the repairs in the underlayment, pull up the old, disintegrating underlayment, pull out the old vanity, goggle at the extent of rotting in the subfloor, gibber mindlessly at the patchwork of plywood that someone has nailed in to keep the toilet falling through the floor, reel in terror from confirming that the rot has turned the wall's floor plate to powder, install bracing so the roof doesn't collapse, cut out the rotted floor and wall, soak all wood with anti-bug and anti-rot borate solution, install new subfloor, install new tub, install concrete fiberboard on the shower enclosure and as underlayment with stainless steel hardware, tile the shower enclosure, replace all the ancient valves with quarter-turn ball valves, and curl into a fetal position for a few hours.
